Lake Erie Walleye, Perch Quotas Set

COLUMBUS, OH—The Lake Erie Committee of the Great Lakes Fishery Commission has announced the 2005 Total Allowable Catch (TAC) for Erie's walleye and yellow perch fisheries. The committee, composed of representatives from Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, New York and Ontario, meets in March each year to set sustainable harvest levels for both species.
The 2005 TAC for walleyes is 5.8 million fish; the perch quota is 11.8 million pounds.

Lake Erie's daily bag limit for walleyes between March 1 and April 30 is three fish per angler per day and increases to six from May 1 through Feb. 28, 2006. A minimum length of 15 inches will be in effect year round. The year-round bag limit for perch is 30, with no size limit.
