Lake Erie Walleye, Perch Quotas Set
COLUMBUS, OH—The Lake Erie Committee of the Great Lakes
Fishery Commission has announced the 2005 Total Allowable
Catch (TAC) for Erie's walleye and yellow perch fisheries.
The committee, composed of representatives from Ohio,
Michigan, Pennsylvania, New York and Ontario, meets in
March each year to set sustainable harvest levels for both
species.
The 2005 TAC for walleyes is 5.8 million fish; the perch
quota is 11.8 million pounds.
Lake Erie's daily bag limit for walleyes between March 1
and April 30 is three fish per angler per day and
increases to six from May 1 through Feb. 28, 2006. A
minimum length of 15 inches will be in effect year round.
The year-round bag limit for perch is 30, with no size
limit. |
